About me

This is me in one of my favourite places. There's something about planting a seed, creating the right conditions, waiting and trusting, watching things grow, that feels fundamental.
I believe that counselling can work in a similar way – certainly my own counselling journey has felt very much like this. Person-centred counselling trusts that everyone has the capacity to grow towards self-acceptance and realisation. The role of the counsellor is to help the client become aware of the obstacles that are preventing growth. This is why I've chosen an acorn as a symbol of my counselling practice.
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change"
Carl Rogers
After studying Human Sciences at the University of Oxford, I worked in the world of children's books for many years. I have written and illustrated books for children focusing on the value of empathy, which is something I'm passionate about.
It was in writing my book Frankie's Foibles, which helps young children understand anxiety and OCD, that I recognised my own childhood OCD, and planted the seeds of the idea to train to be a counsellor.
"Don't push the river, it flows by itself."
Frederick Perls
I live with my family in the South Hams and feel very lucky to spend time in the countryside on my doorstep.

As well as my private practice, I work as a young-person's counsellor at KEVIC and with Totnes Carers' Counselling, which is a low-cost counselling service for unpaid carers.

I am a qualified and registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCS) and adhere to their Code of Ethics.

This is Murphy, my Cavalier-cross, who may occasionally join us in the therapy room as long as you are comfortable with dogs.
